At the moment Scotland’s male national team will face their Ukrainian counterparts on the 24th of this month. The clash will see the victor go one step closer to this year’s World Cup.
But alas the game at Hampden is now in doubt as the country of Ukraine are engulfed in a much bigger and critical battle as they try and stop the current Russian invasion that has shocked the entire world. Much of The Ukraine’s last squad were made up of players that play in the Ukrainian Premier League.
If the game can’t go ahead then it doesn’t really matter when you think of the circumstances, there really is more to life than a football game.
As supporters Scotland stands with Ukraine.
If we do indeed play on March the 24th, we will support both teams.
I think the Tartan Army will cheer both sets of players onto the pitch, they’ll also respect the Ukrainian flag, any away support that may make it into the stands and anthem when it is played. Glasgow might just feel like a bit of Kyiv for the day.
Of course the Scottish support will be hoping for a home win, Scotland haven’t reached a World Cup tournament since 1998 after all but I don’t think we’d begrudge the away side if they came together to give their battling nation a much needed lift in morale. We Scots understand the underdog story better than most!
My ultimate hope is that I can use my ticket later this month. Mainly because I think that will mean that the invasion has ended and that Ukraine will still be an independent country. After that – the scoreline isn’t as important as it seemed to be a month or so ago.
The Tartan Army are already stepping up and showing support to the Ukraine:

People like Clark and the Tartan Army as a whole are why I am proud to be a Scotland supporter. We adore the football and our teams but we also know that it’s secondary when other nations and innocent people are suffering.
That’s why we will stand with Ukraine!
