The Scottish Professional Football League (SPFL) board has announced that it will review its process regarding fan misconduct, with particular focus on sectarian chanting.

In a statement, the board said that it would take the opportunity of next month’s meeting to discuss the issue.

“An SPFL board meeting was convened by conference call to discuss recent supporter misconduct at matches. The strong view of the SPFL board is that such behaviour has no place in Scottish football.”

After sectarian chanting at both the Celtic v Rangers League Cup semi-final and Rangers league match away at Raith Rovers, the league has been subject to criticism regarding its stance on support conduct.

“These events and the current regulations in this area will be reviewed and discussed in detail when the board meets in person at Hampden in March.”
