The SPFL are to wait until the next round of Championship matches are complete before making a decision on play-off dates. The existing dates for the play-offs have the two legs of the final scheduled for May 28 and May 31.
Falkirk’s victory over Hibernian in Saturday’s Scottish Cup semi-final however means that the league will wait before confirming if these will remain the same or not. Falkirk can still qualify for the play-offs ahead of Queen of the South – something that would require rescheduling due to the Cup Final taking place on May 30th.
The SPFL had been expected to confirm the dates this week but are now waiting until the next round of Championship fixtures to be concluded before confirming the schedule. Falkirk are away to Rangers this weekend while Queen of the South are at home to Dumbarton. A point for Queen of the South would ensure that they finish ahead of Falkirk in the play-off race and thus allow the current dates to remain the same.
The league have recently been criticised for their handling of the final day fixtures in the Championship, with Hearts’ match against Rangers being moved to a Sunday to accommodate broadcasters, before changing the fixture again to the Saturday in order for all final Championship matches to kick-off at the same time.
