SPFL closing on new league sponsor

Date: 28th April 2015

St J v Motherwell

The Scottish Professional Football League (SPFL) is hopeful that a title sponsor can be secured for next season, having been without one for all four divisions since the Clydesdale Bank choice not to renew their deal when it expired in 2013.

The League has confirmed that talks are ongoing and that there is a hope that a new partner can be found in time for the 2015/16 season. The lack of a title sponsor has been the source of great frustration to football fans across Scotland, who bemoan the lack of financial investment in the game. This is put into even starker contrast when set against the huge sums of money that the English Premier League receive from their various commercial agreements.

There also still remains a lack of permanent sponsorship for the League Cup, with the QTS Group covering only this season’s semi-finals and final. The Scottish Cup and Challenge Cup receive title sponsorship from William Hill and Petrofac Training Services respectively.
