Scotland will resume their rivalry with the Auld Enemy when the two meet at Celtic Park on Tuesday, November 18th the SFA has confirmed.
The neighbours last met in the summer of 2013, where England edged out Gordon Strachan’s men 3-2 at Wembley; it had been the first time the two nations had met since a Euro 2000 play-off at the old Wembley.
The midweek encounter will come just four days after Scotland’s Euro 2016 qualifier against Republic of Ireland, also to be held at the home of the Scottish champions. England will arrive in Glasgow having faced Slovenia in an away fixture as part of their qualification process for France.
It will also be England’s first visit to Scotland since 1999, when two goals from Paul Scholes gave Kevin Keegan’s side a 2-0 victory at Hampden Park in a Euro 2000 qualifying play-off.
Their only other meeting in the last 25 years came during the group stage of Euro 96, hosted by England, with an Alan Shearer header and a memorable individual effort from Paul Gascoigne coming either side of a David Seaman penalty save to give the eventual semi-finalists a 2-0 win on home soil.
