Rangers First exceed 11,000 members

Date: 18th February 2015

Rangers First

Rangers’ fan group, Rangers First, this week passed the 11,000 member milestone – just weeks before the club’s EGM. The group, set up with the help of Supporters Direct Scotland a year ago, has been buying shares over the last few months and currently stands as the 12th largest shareholder in the financial troubled club.

Rangers First was established by supporters unhappy with the way in which their club was being run and the continual financial difficulties that the Ibrox club were facing. Rangers currently lie 3rd in the Scottish Championship, having had to begin life again in the old SFL Third Division after their liquidation in 2012.

The group, which operates a similar monthly membership scheme to that of the incredibly successful Foundation of Hearts, was set up with four specific aims in mind: “To introduce Community Ownership and Fan Governance to Rangers…and to continue to buy shares in the club; To put Rangers first and to make the next 140 years just as successful as our illustrious history; To introduce democratic one member one vote control; To bring a level of transparency, authority and consultation to the Rangers fans and give them a voice in how their club is run”.

Rangers FC’s EGM, which was scheduled to take place in London in early March, has now been moved to Ibrox Stadium, with a new date yet to be confirmed. Shareholders will vote on whether to support shareholder Dave King’s proposal over changes at boardroom level. Those unable to attend the meeting are being encouraged to use postal or proxy votes in order to have their voice heard.
