Children from the Glenboig Playscheme join Albion Rover’s Mark McGuigan to say thanks, on behalf of Radio Clyde Cash for Kids, for the club’s generous donation of £10,000 following their successful Cup run.
CUP RUN ENDS WITH DONATION TO CHILDREN’S CHARITY
Children from the Glenboig Playscheme project have said ‘Thank You’ to Albion Rovers FC for its generous £10,000 donation to children’s charity Radio Clyde Cash for Kids following the Club’s successful Scottish Cup run this year.
The project, which will be one of the local groups to benefit from the unexpected donation, aims to advance education and provide facilities and services in the interests of social welfare and leisure time during the school holidays, by offering age specific activities for children and young people at low or no cost.
Radio Clyde Cash for Kids makes financial awards to vulnerable children across fourteen local authorities in the west of Scotland and works in partnership with social work departments and other agencies specialising in the welfare of children.
Over £1m was generously donated to Radio Clyde Cash for Kids in 2013 and was awarded to projects supporting over 100,000 children in the West of Scotland. Since 1980, Radio Clyde Cash for Kids has raised over £28million and helped more than 2 million of the West of Scotland’s most deprived children.
The money will be ring-fenced to support children’s charities in and around the Coatbridge area with an official cheque presentation taking place at the club’s next home league match against Elgin City on Saturday, 22 March.
Debbie Fraser, regional charity manager at Radio Clyde Cash for Kids said: “When John Devlin contacted us to make the donation we were gobsmacked and delighted. Radio Clyde Cash for Kids supports the work that many groups in west of Scotland communities, including Coatbridge, provide for vulnerable children, so such a gesture will have a big impact.
“Albion Rovers is a great example of a community club and this donation, which gives something back to those living in and around Coatbridge, is reflective of its commitment to the people it lives alongside. We want to say thank-you again!”
Radio Clyde Cash for Kids works to help support the most vulnerable children in local communities across Glasgow and the west of Scotland and has been the official charity of Radio Clyde since 1980.
