Hope Grows That Tartan Army Will Be In Hampden This Summer

Date: 7th April 2021

Yesterday, Scotland’s First Minister Nicola Sturgeon said that she was hopeful that a ‘good number’ of fans will be in Hampden for this summer’s games at the Euro 2020.

She did state that the Scottish Government couldn’t make any definitive guarantees at this stage but it’s reassuring to hear that The SFA have been allowed to submit proposals to UEFA that will show how we can have some of the Tartan Army on the terraces at Hampden.

It has been a huge twenty-three year wait to see our men’s senior national side grace a major tournament again and it would be a catastrophe if we didn’t have supporters in the stands cheering the lads on.

Obviously our nation’s health comes first during such a devastating global pandemic but it’s looking good given the UK’s vaccine roll-out and with our case numbers coming down. If we can keep hitting our targets then hopefully we will see at least 15,000 fans in the grounds of Hampden !

Whatever the numbers, we will not see a full house and that is indeed a shame. I feel for those (probably myself) who will miss out. But to have just some fans in there will still make it a better occasion, even for those watching on the telly.

It’s also extremely unfortunate that we will not be able to open Scotland up and welcome foreign visitors and fans into our country. A nation really becomes vibrant when holding such cherished events and it boosts a lot of our sectors and adds greatly to our economy.

I am also hoping that by having some of the passionate Tartan Army inside the stadium that they can roar the team onto some success. It will hopefully provide the squad, as well as the entire nation, with a huge confidence booster. It might even give us a slight edge!

In a period of time when we seem to struggle to find positives as Covid-19 shuts down borders and huge parts of our life, it is great to think that in June we can watch on as Scotland’s men walk onto the turf at Hampden and that they’ll hopefully have supporters in there cheering their every move.
