Erin Cuthbert – One Of Scotland’s Brightest Prospects

Date: 18th May 2019

From Fifa.com

When you think of the youngsters currently doing a great job in Scottish football a few names instantly come to mind like Jake Hastie, Lewis Ferguson, David Turnbull and Billy Gilmour.

Another should definitely be Scotland women’s international Erin Cuthbert.

As a teenager she enjoyed success at Glasgow City before making the trip to London to sign for Chelsea in December 2016.

She would help The Blues to the FA Women’s Super League (WSL) title and the Women’s FA Cup in the 2017-18 season.

The club’s own website said this about her influence during that extremely successful campaign:

‘Erin Cuthbert was a key performer for the Blues, whether starting matches or coming off the bench, during the Double-winning 2017/18 season.’

The forward has that great ability to make the right decisions at the right times, meaning she can score important goals or create vital assists. A lot of that is down to her ability to remain composed in tight situations and see what’s around her as things develop on the football field.

This season has seen Chelsea in the Champions League and Cuthbert scored a vital goal as The Blues beat PSG. She would also claim a strike against Lyon in the semi-final stage but unfortunately it wasn’t enough to get Chelsea into the final.

Earlier this month, Erin was named Chelsea’s player of the season showing us what a terrific year she’s had.

No matter your sex, as a Scot we should all admire Erin Cuthbert. She has played for the nation’s youth teams and now has won twenty six caps, scoring seven goals.

Even at a tender age, she achieved great things with Glasgow City before making the decision to try her hand at a big team in a different league and she’s succeeding at the highest level. All Scottish kids looking to breakthrough in the game should be using her as an inspiration.

The next step?

Well the twenty year old attacker will be in France this summer in the hope of shining at a World Cup in a Scotland jersey as she was selected in Shelley Kerr’s squad this week.

Erin Cuthbert is a superb player and when we discuss Scotland’s best young players at the moment, then her name should be definitely get a mention and that will hopefully be confirmed in France this summer!
