The new season in Scottish football will kick off on July 25th, after dates for the league campaigns and cup competitions were announced today. The first round of the Petrofac Training Cup – currently held by Livingston – will open the new season, with the Premiership starting the following weekend on August 1st and the Championship, League One and League Two on August 8th. The fixture lists for the league season are expected to be announced in June.
Either one or two Scottish League Cup first-round matches scheduled for the weekend of Saturday 1 August might be moved because of the involvement of a Premiership club starting their top-flight campaign at the same time.
The Champions League qualifying dates – which are expected to affect Celtic – have yet to be announced. Early Europa League qualifying rounds for other Scottish teams may also affect the early season schedule.
