Colours of our Scarves – Stranraer FC

Date: 2nd September 2014

Stranraer FC

As part of the anti-sectarian, Colours of our Scarves project, Supporters Direct Scotland (SDS) were at Stair Park on Saturday for the Stranraer v Dunfermline match in SPFL League One. As part of this programme, SDS will be visiting all league grounds in Scottish football from early 2014, through to the end of the 2014/15 season.

The programme will collect much needed research through a campaign of educational workshops and visual displays utilising the services of world famous football photographer, Stuart Roy Clarke. This is done through surveying fans in attendance on their views on sectarianism in the local community – both past and present – and what more could be done to tackle not only sectarianism, but racism and territorialism.

SDS was afforded the opportunity to visit the Stranraer FC ‘Fitba’ Bar before the match, meeting with supporters of both clubs to discuss the project and what their perceptions of sectarianism are – both in Stranraer and Dunfermline, as well as across the country.

At Stair Park, SDS hosted the Colours of our Scarves photographic exhibition at pitch side, allowing fans to view the work of Stuart Roy Clarke and participate in our survey, whilst discussing the merits of the project and how Scottish football can help in addressing the issue of sectarianism. There was an overwhelmingly positive response from those in attendance regarding the project, who were happy to partake and let their opinions be known.

We would like to extend our thanks to Stranraer FC for their hospitality and allowing us to deliver our exhibition on match day. The club made us feel very welcome and were more than happy to help in any regard on the day.
