Colours of our Scarves – Queen of the South

Palmerston Park and Queen of the South was the latest venue for Supporters Direct Scotland’s (SDS) Colours of our Scarves programme. The government-funded, anti-sectarian project includes a photographic exhibition, that will travel the country to every SPFL league ground before the end of the 2014/2015 season.

Colours of our Scarves also includes work within the local communities it visits, including but not limited to, schools, youth groups and residential groups. The aim is to raise awareness of sectarianism and to promote the idea that it is a society issue, rather than a football one, but that the popularity of football allows sectarianism to easily manifest itself.

On Saturday, SDS visited Dumfries for the visit of Falkirk to Palmerston Park. The photographic exhibition attracted a number of the home crowd, who were asked their opinions on the issue of sectarianism, both today and in the past, as well as any suggestions they had as to how the issue should be tackled and who should be responsible for addressing the matter.

SDS would like to extend their thanks to Queen of the South FC and the Queens Trust for their co-operation and especially John Johnstone (@jx2architect)of the Queens Trust for his help on the day in providing trust members to participate in our work.

The next Colours of our Scarves exhibition will be on Saturday 25th October at Galabank, Annan.
