Celtic FC have had their application for the introduction of rail seating at Celtic Park rejected by Glasgow City Council’s Safety Advisory Group.
The club had stated their interest in introducing safe standing measures at their stadium over a year ago, but today’s news will come as a considerable setback not only for the club, but for all football fans who support the introduction of safe standing measures in grounds across the country.
Supporters Direct Scotland (SDS) is very disappointed with the Safety Advisory Group’s decision and will offer any help and advice to Celtic FC regarding this matter.
Research conducted recently by SDS in association with the SFA showed strong support for safe standing in Scottish football. Over 90% of respondents stated that they would be favour for the reintroduction of safe standing areas, whilst the majority of those surveyed said that they would be more likely to attend games on a regular basis if safe standing was available.
