Celebrating The Fans!

Date: 13th August 2021

It has been a bit of a mixed week for Scottish teams in Europe this week. Yet even after some disappointing results four out of the five sides remain in continental competition for the next round.

Having so many fans inside Ibrox, Pittodrie, Celtic Park and McDiarmid Park was a real joy for all those who love our game.

Rangers might have suffered at the hands of Malmo but that cheer for the opening goal by Alfredo Morelos was heard all around Glasgow!

St Johnstone pushed Turkish giants Galatasaray as much as they could, before they succumbed to their defeat. Yet the biggest takeaway from that encounter, for me, was seeing such a large crowd gather in Perth – that truly gave me goosebumps!

Callum Davidson’s men will hopefully learn from this experience and next up is Austrian side LASK. Here’s hoping The Saints can put in another solid performance and go one step further in Europa Conference League, and do it in front of another bumper crowd.

Aberdeen stepped up and produced in front of their lively home support. Ryan Hedges and sub Funso Ojo were in particularly fine form as The Dons put Icelandic side Breidablik to the sword and send their own fans home happy. To see both goals cheered with such gusto was again a standout moment after the terrible year and a half we’ve all endured.

Celtic may have had a tough start to the season but the Glasgow side now seem to have turned things around. This carried on with a splendid 3-0 win over Jablonec, which was witnessed by around 60,000 home fans who saluted new boss Ange Postecoglu. The Celtic Park crowd were in full voice for much of the game and it was nice to see their supporters cheering each of Joe Hart’s saves as well as all their goals!

Even when watching on a Television set – our beloved game is supremely better with terraces bursting at the seams!

To see so many joyous faces back in our stadia is another step back into some sort of normality. The fans are getting back into the swing of things and that will boost their mental health. The return of bums on seats will also boost club’s coffers. It really is a win win situation for everyone involved.

Again here’s hoping it continues and we see full capacities week in and week out for the rest of this campaign at every level.
