AdPitch – Innovation in Scottish Football

Date: 7th October 2015

We had the pleasure of meeting recent graduate Thomas Goulbourn yesterday. Thomas, for his University coursework, has developed several interesting ideas around innovation in Scottish football and what can be done to get people back through the gates.

He sets the scene with some statistics from the SPFL Premiership and stadium percentage utilisation from the 2013/14 season.

Thomas, as do many others, believe the future of Scottish football fans lies in getting young people through the gates. This got Thomas thinking as to what clubs could do to encourage the next wave of support. He’s developed an innovative idea which would allow young fans to get an experience of playing on the hallowed turf of their supported club, while not annoying the groundsmen! Introducing AdPitch. A video here sets the scene.

What do you think? Could it work? Would your club consider introducing it? Thomas is keen to speak to clubs and see how he could assist in implement a pitch side 5-a-side pitch. The beauty is, clubs can use it to promote their community work and potentially monetise the advertising board for some additional revenue.

Thomas’ idea for AdPitch wasn’t created before looking at some other interesting ideas to enhance the match-day experience and incorporating ideas of being able to drink at games and safe standing. Have a look at some of these.
